HOW TO CHECK YOUR APPLIANCES WHEN THERE IS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE

One of the most common issues that we have reported by our tenants is that they have lights at the property but no power.  Generally this issue is a quick fix and you do not even need an electrician to attend.

The first thing that our office will ask you to do, is to go an unplug all of your appliances.  This means everything – from the kettle and toaster to your TV and lamps.  Go right around the house, take each and every item out of the power points and turn all of the power points off.

Now that you have done this, we need you to find your electrical main box.  Generally this is located outside the house and is where your electricity company reads your meter for your bills.

When you are there, you need to ensure that all of the fuses are switched to the ON position.  You will most likely find that the power fuse has been tripped and will be OFF.  Make sure that you turn this ON.  If this fuse will not stay on, please make sure that all of your appliances are unplugged.  If at this time, your fuse will not stay on, then you need to contact our office again and let us know.

If, however, your fuse stays on, then you can go back inside and start plugging in your appliances one by one, to see if any of them trip the power circuit.  If an appliance trips the circuit, this is the culprit of your issue.

If there is still an issue after you have tried the above instructions, then please call our office back and let us know, so that we can send an electrician to attend.

Please be aware that if an electrician attends and the issue at your property is found to be the fault of an appliance, then you will be responsible for paying the cost of the electrician to attend.
