Notice required by a tenant to vacate

Recently we have seen some confusion in this space, where tenants are not quite sure on what notice they need to provide to vacate a property.  I thought that it was time to clear this up for everyone by writing a blog about the requirements!

If a tenant is looking to vacate a property at the end of their lease, they will need to provide our office with end of lease termination.   This can be provided in the last 14 days of the lease.

If a tenant is looking to vacate a property and they are on a periodic lease, then they will need to provide a no grounds notice to the landlord for 21 days.  This can be provided at any time during a periodic tenancy.

We will require this notice in writing, so that we can begin the process of outgoing and booking inspections for the outgoing on our end.  We do have a specific form in the office that you can use to provide vacating notice – please see below:
